Domain transfer price comparison: Costs and terms

Find lower domain transfer prices for .com, .net, .org, .co and .io. Check the later renewal, added registration time and locks before moving a name.

In TLDSpy’s October 26, 2026 snapshot, Blacknight’s indexed .com transfer was $8.94, while its annual renewal was $22.38. Check both prices before moving a domain you plan to keep.

The extension also matters: generic domains and country-code domains can follow different transfer processes. Check the exact name’s eligibility and the destination’s terms before paying or changing DNS.

Where did transfers cost least in the sample?

These were the lowest indexed standard transfer prices for five selected extensions in the production snapshot. The query excluded stale rows; an asterisk marks medium confidence, which means the rate still needs confirmation with the registrar.

ExtensionSample registrarTransferLater annual renewal
.comBlacknight$8.94*$22.38*
.netNameSilo$10.35*$15.95*
.orgOVHcloud$10.49$14.49
.coHover$25.99*$25.99*
.ioCosmotown$48.86$48.86

Figures are USD excluding VAT, with mandatory fees included where listed. Coupons and other conditional offers are excluded; premium names and optional services may cost extra.

For .com, Spaceship’s indexed transfer was $9.68 and its renewal was $10.18, both high-confidence rates. Its higher transfer charge could therefore be offset by the lower later renewals, depending on how long you keep the name.

Does a transfer add registration time?

For transfers you authorize under the ICANN Transfer Policy, completion adds a year, subject to the maximum remaining registration term. Check the extension and any timing exceptions with the destination registrar.

Do not apply that rule automatically to every country-code extension. A transfer fee, the process for changing registrars and the registration time added are separate details that should be confirmed for the exact TLD.

For example, the sample returned a zero transfer charge for .uk at Porkbun. A free transfer does not mean you get an extra year or free renewals. Check what the registrar includes for that TLD.

Can a transfer lock stop the move?

ICANN’s registrant FAQ explains that a registrar may deny a transfer within 60 days of initial registration or a previous transfer. A change to registrant details can also trigger a 60-day lock, with an advance opt-out available at some registrars.

Check the current policy and the domain’s status before scheduling the transfer. These rules concern eligible registrar transfers; they should not be assumed to govern every country-code extension in the same way.

Will the website and email move too?

A registration transfer changes who manages the name. Hosting and mailboxes are separate services, so keep their DNS records and account access available while planning the move.

Some destinations have specific DNS requirements: Cloudflare Registrar requires Cloudflare authoritative nameservers. Your website can remain with another host, but its records need to be configured correctly.

Use the registrar comparison and individual TLD pages for current website data, checking the displayed price dates. The source snapshot preserves this guide’s figures, confidence labels and collection dates.

Check the prices yourself: every TLD, every registrar, or compare registrars side by side.
